Why Bourbon?
By Jake Kiper, Mental Health Counselor at Matthew 25.
The BBQ, Bourbon & Burlesque fundraiser is coming to Evansville on September 20, and it’s more than just a night of great food and entertainment. For Matthew 25 AIDS Services, partnering with the bourbon industry may seem unexpected, but the history of bourbon reveals a legacy of resilience and broad contribution that aligns closely with our own.
For generations, the story of bourbon ignored the true, diverse roots of America’s native spirit. It was shaped by women on family farms, Scottish and Irish immigrants, and enslaved Black men whose craftsmanship was critical but went unrecognized. Later, immigrant labor built the railroads that made distribution possible. Bourbon has always been made by a broad range of people—and our event is a celebration of this history and a future that recognizes everyone’s contributions.
“It’s more than just an evening of flavor and flair—it’s a celebration of history, representation, and progress.”
What to Expect
With generous support from Green River Distilling and over $20,000 in donations from the American whiskey industry, we’re proud to bring people together to celebrate this movement of connection and community. Join us for an unforgettable night of BBQ, bourbon, burlesque, and bold conversations about belonging.
Join the Celebration
Bourbon is America’s spirit—not just because of where it’s made, but because of how it was made: by many, for many. This is a space we’ve always had a place in. Now, it’s a space where more people can feel recognized. Join us for an unforgettable night of BBQ, bourbon, burlesque—and bold conversations about belonging.

Clinic Updates
We’re excited to share some important updates that reflect our ongoing commitment to providing high-quality, accessible care for our community.
Faster STI Testing Now Available
Very soon, our Henderson and Evansville locations will be equipped with molecular lab analyzers, allowing us to test for specific STIs and deliver results in under an hour. This advancement means patients will benefit from faster diagnoses and same-day treatment, an important step in stopping the spread of infections and delivering rapid high-quality care. Due to the significant investment required, our long-term plan is to expand this technology to all of our locations, including the mobile clinic.
Now Offering PEP
Beginning August 4th, Matthew 25 launched Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP), a vital HIV prevention tool for individuals who may have been exposed to HIV. PEP must be started within 72 hours of exposure to be effective. Patients can now schedule an appointment with one of our providers, be evaluated, and leave with a prescription for treatment the very same day.
Expanded HIV Testing Capabilities
We’re proud to share that all clinic staff at our Henderson and Owensboro clinics are now officially trained HIV testers.
Kentucky Prevention Updates
HCV testing numbers increased from 5 to 60 in the past month! Bowling Green Prevention is growing and participated in 10 events this month. Look for them in the community more frequently!
