Harm Reduction

What is Harm Reduction?

Harm reduction is an evidence based set of practical strategies and ideas aimed at reducing negative consequences associated with an action. We used harm reduction everyday by putting on sunscreen and bug spray, using seat belts and helmets, and using a designated driver after drinking. Harm reduction does NOT enable or encourage any specific behaviors, it is to provide empowerment for people to make healthy decisions for themselves and others.

Check out the National Harm Reduction Coalition website for more information.
