In an effort of Matthew 25 to offer more culturally responsive foods to the patients we serve who come from a variety of backgrounds and cultures, we are seeking food items that will help us better meet their unique needs. There are instances where our food pantry, that serves anyone who is HIV+, regardless of citizenship or financial status, is best positioned to provide the majority of a patient’s groceries, such as when they are not eligible to receive SNAP benefits or to receive food assistance from another agency. In these instances, when a patient needs foods that fits a particular cultural dietary pattern, we have only been able to provide food items that fit the US diet, with packaging that only lists titles and ingredients in English. Our service area includes Owensboro and Bowling Green, Kentucky, which are both refugee cities with great International Centers that provide excellent resources. There is undoubtedly a growing diversity of individuals in the communities we serve. We are hosting an international food drive to help assist us in gaining a diverse selection of international foods to better serve our population.
